Canvas size

I generally work with prestretched 14" x 18" canvas. If another size is needed, I'm sure I can accomodate you. I use acrylic paint. The sides are painted so you can hang them as is, or bring them to a framer. I do not do framing.

Background

Please look at the the examples on my website to get an idea of what the background will look like. I try to have fun with the composition, copying antique wallpaper designs or attaching satin rosebuds around dainty feet. I generally like a simple background for the bigger dogs. I will be happy to work with you on colors. I do not do "natural" backgrounds. No lakes, woods, pheasants in the mouth, etc.

Photographs

What I have learned is that the quality of the photograph determines the quality of the painting. I will be studying the photo for expression and details, especially in the eyes. Look thru your photos for your favorites, or take a photo outside, out of direct sunlight. Get some closeups of the face, but also a good full body pose. It can be fun to paint your pet draped on a big chair or couch. If you have your dog trimmed, take a picture when the coat has grown out a little. You can email me samples of photos, but in most cases, I will need the original photo mailed to me.

Price

$275.00 includes shipping and handling. I begin paintings in the order received, once paid in full and photos in hand. I can usually get a painting done in two weeks. If I am especially busy, and can't complete the painting on your schedule, I can mail you a gift card, with an enclosed business card, for you to mail to the recipient to let them know that a painting is on the way. This can be very exciting, and gives the recipients a chance to get involved in the photo selection.
